wayvywork of the week

THE CITIES SILENT PROTECTOR”

So. I’ve been thinking. I wanna ask you a couple questions, if that’s okay.

What is life about, anyway? Is it about success? Making as much money as possible and flexxxin on dese hoes? Is it about respect and love? Perhaps we’re here to mine our fellow humans of as much of it as they’re worth. Maybe its about simply experience our movements through the world. With our inability to escape our fundamental needs, our fleeting wants and our persistent mortality. The fear of our ineptitude, the reality of our position in this large, cold, unfeeling and unforgiving world. Is it about the pain that seems inherent to our existence? Born kicking and screaming and dying the same way. Constant images of warfare, strife, poverty and death barrage our psyches and all for what? Nationalism? Capitalism? All these isms and schisms that have never done nothing for me or the folks who look like me. They weren’t made with us in mind. And yes, I do mean us. Me and you. In this together.

I’m sorry I came in swinging like that, but I feel like these questions need to be posed. The only way forward is for us to speak honestly and openly with each other, and ask the difficult but important questions. We may not deliver the answers immediately, but now the ball is moving. So many times it can feel overwhelming with the amount of issues humanity is collectively facing, both manmade horrors and natural disasters. Sometimes it can feel like there’s nothing we can do, but cannot ignore the innate need to do something. And in those moments, we do what we can. It may not be a grand political stance and it may even feel futile in the face of these massive injustices and genocides. But it matters. It is important. And it is necessary. wayvy is here to support you on that long journey to bring positive change.

So that’s what wayvy weekly is. Every Wednesday we’re carving our a virtual space to make change. Highlight the artists, the movers and the shakers that may not always get the light shone on them but who are doing the most crucial work to continue to push our society in a healthy direction and mitigate the fallout from our greedy, insipid overlords. Bringing uplifting art and the conversations and communities surrounding it closer to the people, as I believe that’s what we need now more than ever. And finally, a wayvywork of the week. A piece of work that encapsulates the wayvyword of the week (this week it is pain) coupled with a review and an analysis of the work. I really hope that you enjoy our humble offerings, and join us in trying to save the world, one piece at a time. And as always, stay wayvy baby <3.
