So. What are you focusing on this week?

Honestly, these days I’m finding it hard to focus on the good things. On the successes.

On his birthday, my best friend said the most important lesson he got from the year was to celebrate the wins. Not just feel relief. Admittedly, I am not naturally good at this at all. I find myself so hellbent on the destination I miss the journey. Cliche, I know, but I really am trying to pull myself back more. Allowing myself to experience the little things while still keeping my peripheral on the big goal.

Asking myself what I should be focusing on has been a major theme for me this week. Big picture or minute details. I would consider myself a pretty broad strokes kinda guy so I’m working hard on retooling my mind. Just because the journey won’t be over after one step doesn’t mean the step isn’t worth taking. It’s a more daunting task than I had anticipated being able to craft one’s own definition of success. And focusing on that.

FOCUS

In the wayvywork of the week, FOCUS, we focus on what it looks and feels like to focus. The spiral spirit in his chest that features bright yellows, cleansing whites and grounding umbers reflect the divine power that can manifest in someone once they are focused on their passion and purpose. A lot of our works feature black people as that is where our focus lies. The determination in his red eyes that reveal the institutional violence that he’s seen and his refusal to accept it. He is squarely focusing on how to make a better life for his people with the gifts he’s been given, and the spiral spirit that started in him begins to spill out and surround him, infecting and improving the lives of those around him. The yellow diamond on his forehead represents his third eye opening, and places it as the logical conclusion of someone putting all their exp points in focus.
